An empty space with deep contrasts, shapes and bright blue vs orange colours - few things that quickly come into the mind when thinking of a desert scene. For this reason and for being notoriously uninhabitable for the majority of the world population, the deserts are, for many centuries played a major role in stirring the wanderlust within the curious world of explorers.
With the boom of commercial tourism industries the communities that lived around the edge of these sandy vastness began to adopt themselves for more opportunities to make a living. The lifestyle they shared with camels for centuries helped in embracing this change and quickly desert safaris became a norm.
Shadow walkers of this short story belong to the communities at the corners of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan which is an entrance to the Thar desert. They with their camels take strenuous walk for miles up and down over the desert bringing tourists to the famous sam dunes. The struggle they undergo is evident from the swollen arthritic knees and ankles. However for such communities living in these kind of challenging environments and during an immense globalisation that is unforgiving to the poor the choices are pretty much limited.
For the majority of them the shadows quickly vanish within the rolling sand.
